With this new role as an award endower, Panasonic is expanding its long-standing commitment as one of the German Camera Award’s principal sponsors.
Panasonic’s many years of support reflect the company’s continuing commitment to promoting innovative new concepts in the industry. Professional Panasonic equipment is already standard in many German and international film productions.
Christoph Augenstein, Managing Director of Deutscher Kamerapreis Köln e. V., welcomes Panasonic’s substantial commitment: “The German Camera Award is the most important benchmark for outstanding image design in the German-speaking world. It stands for quality, innovation and independence. This work would not be possible without sponsors’ active support. Panasonic has been associated with the German Camera Award as a sponsor for many years. I am therefore particularly pleased that Panasonic is taking on the role of endower for the coveted Editing emerging-talent award for the first time this year. Volker Kersbaum, European BC Product Manager at Panasonic PBITS, explains Panasonic’s support: “As an industry, we have a responsibility to advance technical development in professional video. But products are often only as good as their users, and individual camera talents can inspire an entire industry through creative use of technology. Our long-standing cooperation with the German Camera Award demonstrates this—this year even in the dual role of sponsor and endower of the emerging-talent award.”
The German Camera Award is regarded as the most prestigious honour for cinematography and editing in the German-speaking world and is organised by Deutscher Kamerapreis Köln e. V. This year, awards will be presented for the first time in six slightly revised categories: theatrical feature, television film/docudrama, television series, short film, news/reportage and documentary. The categories reflect the growing importance of docudrama and distinguish journalistic formats more precisely.
Alongside the principal awards, two additional emerging-talent awards for editing and cinematography are an important pillar of support for young German filmmakers, honouring particularly outstanding achievements each year. An exceptional cinematographer is also honoured annually for lifetime achievement. Since the award was founded in 1982, recipients have included Michael Ballhaus, Peter R. Adam, Xaver Schwarzenberger, Gernot Roll, Martin Langer, Elfi Mikesch and Benedikt Neuenfels.
The ceremony takes place in Cologne on June 21, 2009 as part of medienforum.nrw. As in previous years, selected competition entries will be shown at Cologne’s Cinedom in cooperation with the “Großes Fernsehen” festival on June 20 and 21.
A recording of the ceremony will be broadcast on WDR on June 23 from 11:15 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.; SWR on June 26 from 12:30 to 2:15 a.m.; EinsFestival on June 28 from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m.; and Bayerisches Fernsehen on June 28 from 11:15 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
