Adobe Systems today released Photoshop Lightroom 2.4 and Camera Raw 5.4. Both updates are now available for download at http://www.adobe.com/de/downloads/updates/. The Lightroom and Camera Raw updates add raw-data support for 31 additional camera models and backs, including the Canon EOS 500D, Nikon D5000 and 18 Hasselblad models. A complete list of newly supported cameras and backs appears at the end of this article.

Adobe has also released an update to its Digital Negative specification (DNG). DNG is the open archival format for raw data generated by digital cameras. It serves as an open standard for raw data produced by different camera models and ensures photographers can still access archived files years later.

DNG 1.3 includes opcodes, a list of functions and parameters for performing complex activities during raw-data conversion. These include corrections and enhancements that are useful before colour interpolation but difficult to perform given a camera’s limited processing power.

They also include corrections and enhancements such as lens corrections that can be performed only after colour interpolation. Using opcodes allows photographers to retain the benefits of uninterpreted raw data while gaining improved opportunities to optimise their images using the maximum available image data. The DNG SDK has also been updated because of the specification changes.
