With the aid of virtual models that are indistinguishable from real cars, these marketing activities can be carried out before the vehicles themselves have been completed. The contract was awarded to Autodesk and Mackevision because both companies possess cross-industry expertise in visualisation and animation and define the industry standard in this field.
“We are delighted to receive this contract from the BMW Group, demonstrating that Autodesk plays an important role not only in mechanical engineering, architecture, and media and entertainment, but also in the automotive sector,” says Roland Zelles, Vice President and Managing Director of Autodesk Central Europe. “Our strength lies in our ability to create end-to-end digital processes across different fields and connect them with one another. Preparing and making versatile use of existing data leads to enormous cost savings.”
Autodesk will create the virtual models over the next three years together with Mackevision, whose specialists focus above all on the visualisation of vehicle data and the corresponding process optimisation. The data will be prepared under the direction of Autodesk’s consulting team using Autodesk Maya and Autodesk Showcase. These rank among the world’s leading software products for animation and visualisation. In this collaborative project, Mackevision will handle data preparation and quality assurance.
The two companies’ previously unprecedented approach of combining software and process expertise with visualisation capabilities will define a new standard for the quality of data provision. This will ensure that the BMW Group’s virtual vehicle fleet meets the highest quality requirements both for internal corporate purposes and for external marketing agencies.
