According to the company, Autodesk is an official sponsor of Game Developers Conference (GDC) Europe, which will take place in Cologne for the first time from August 17–19, 2009. gamescom 2009 will take place on the same grounds following GDC Europe.

Autodesk will present its Digital Entertainment Creation solutions both at GDC and during gamescom in Hall 4.2 at stand G20. The focus will be on the Autodesk Maya, Autodesk Softimage and Autodesk 3ds Max 3D-animation software, as well as middleware solutions for the games segment.

“We are delighted to be part of GDC Europe and gamescom 2009. In our view, this is the most important developer conference and public trade fair for the games sector in Europe,” says Thomas J. Müller, Industry Marketing Manager, Autodesk Media and Entertainment Solutions. “Our solutions for the games segment enable game developers to realise their ideas and work creatively. These technologies are also being used increasingly for visualisation and simulation purposes in other industries. We look forward to the mutual exchange and to the developments that will be presented at GDC Europe.”

Another highlight at GDC Europe is a panel discussion with Mary-Beth Haggerty, Senior Industry Manager Games at Autodesk. Together with well-known 3D artists from the games industry, she will discuss “Creating Believable Characters.” The expert panel will examine what makes characters in games appear believable, which technologies currently exist for this purpose, and what can be expected in future. The presentation takes place on August 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Europasaal on the exhibition grounds.

According to Autodesk, during gamescom InterSense will present its virtual camera, the InterSense VCam, at the Autodesk stand. In conjunction with Autodesk MotionBuilder, artists can create and test camera movements and tracking shots for films or computer games very quickly. This accelerates the production workflow and saves costs.
