According to NVIDIA, the new motherboards are designed for the forthcoming Intel Core i7 and i5 processors with an LGA1156 socket.
Through the licensing, buyers of a P55-based motherboard and a Core i7 or Core i5 processor can equip their PC with any combination of NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, including Quad SLI.
“NVIDIA’s SLI technology is the perfect complement to our new Core i7 processor and the Intel DP55KG desktop motherboard,” emphasises Clem Russo, VP and General Manager of Intel’s Client Board Division. “NVIDIA and Intel both want to drive the development of the PC as the ideal gaming platform. The new combination of technologies will appeal to anyone configuring or purchasing a PC this autumn.”
As a result of the licensing, NVIDIA SLI technology is now available for all consumer PC platforms equipped with Intel Core i7, Core i5, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors, as well as AMD Phenom II. In addition to pure graphics performance, NVIDIA GeForce GPUs offer further features such as NVIDIA PhysX technology for the realistic depiction of physical interactions between objects and stereoscopic 3D gaming with NVIDIA 3D Vision technology.
