Apart from its extensive entertainment features, the new media player impresses with very long battery life thanks to the Tegra processor.
Michael Rayfield, General Manager of NVIDIA Mobile Business, emphasizes: “Users will love the new device design, the fantastic multimedia features and HD video playback. Zune HD is a ‘must-have’ for anyone looking for the best portable media player on the market.”
NVIDIA Tegra is based on a multiprocessor architecture with eight independent processors, each of which performs specific tasks. For example, there is an HD video processor, an audio processor, a graphics processor and two ARM cores.
The Microsoft Zune HD uses the following NVIDIA Tegra features:
* an HD video processor for HD videos that ensures high image quality and smooth video playback with low power consumption
* an “ultra-low-power” graphics processor for optimizing the graphical user interface
* NVIDIA nPower technology for reducing power consumption and extending HD video and MP3 runtimes.
The Tegra processor was developed over the past five years with high performance and low power consumption in mind for use in mobile devices such as media players, smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks and tablet PCs. Devices with Tegra processors offer the features consumers now expect from mobile devices: from HD video playback and a permanent HD internet connection through to an intuitive 3D user interface. There are currently around 50 Tegra-based development projects worldwide.
