Does the game’s plot follow the film’s plot?
The story of the game and that of the film are two completely different ones. This is because the game’s plot begins two years before the events of the film and takes place in another part of the moon Pandora. Our goal was to expand the universe created by James Cameron and not repeat the film’s story in the form of a game. Instead, we wanted to give fans the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating world and the developing conflict between the RDA corporation and the Na’vi.
What kind of plot do the PC, PlayStation3 and Xbox360 versions offer?
In the game, you take on the role of Able Ryder, a communications expert from Earth who is supposed to help the RDA track down a sanctuary on Pandora. If the corporation were to find it, they would be able to take control of the Na’vi’s planet. This would allow the RDA to continue extracting the planet’s resources, which are urgently needed on Earth. The Na’vi learn of this plan and begin searching for the sanctuary themselves. The player must soon decide: Do they want to help the Na’vi preserve their existing way of life, or do they want to join the RDA and bring order to a mission that has spiraled out of control?
Who are the main characters?
• The player embodies Able Ryder, a communications specialist from Earth who is supposed to help the RDA track down a sanctuary on Pandora.
• Kendra Midori is the principal contact at the RDA. She believes in the corporation’s goals and is reluctant to accept that war between the Na’vi and the RDA is inevitable.
• Commander Falco is the RDA’s security chief. He sees the Na’vi as nothing more than a virus. A virus that must be eradicated so that the RDA can achieve its goals.
• Dr. Harper is the head of the RDA’s Avatar program. During all his years on Pandora, Harper has formed close relationships with the Na’vi. He understands their way of life and sees the destructive nature of the RDA operations.
• Tan Jala is a Na’vi warrior who wants to make peace with the RDA. He believes in dialogue rather than the use of violence.
• Beyda’amo is a Na’vi warrior who does not believe in peace with the RDA. They must simply be eliminated.
• Tsahik Sänume is the matriarch of the Tipani Na’vi clan. She believes that Able Ryder can help the Na’vi stop the RDA’s attack.
Do any characters from the film also appear in the game?
• Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) is the first person you encounter in the game. Grace is part of the Avatar program. She orders the player to report to Dr. Harper, and you meet her several times during the game.
• Trudy Chacon (Michele Rodriguez) accompanies the player during the game as an RDA helicopter pilot.
• Commander Quaritch (Steven Lang) is an RDA commander who assigns the player some delicate missions
Is there any other information one should know?
The game asks the player to do the right thing. The question that arises for the player, however, is “What is the right thing?”. We will not answer this question for the player. Depending on what type of player they are, they can decide for themselves what is right for them. How would they most like to play the adventure, and what is their approach to this kind of conflict? Philosophically and emotionally, only they decide what the right thing is.
