In 2009, dve had so far sold more than 130 licences for Nuke, the compositing software from The Foundry.
“That means a customer is convinced of Nuke’s capabilities every 1.5 days. And with the new version 6.0, The Foundry will further increase Nuke’s efficiency—to the benefit of our customers,” says Jürgen Firsching, Managing Director of dve GmbH. Robert Pinnow of rise | fx, Berlin, adds: “For our VFX productions, Nuke is simply incredible! It is so efficient and well thought out that many tasks can be solved significantly faster and better. We were able to increase these benefits further after integrating Nuke’s extremely flexible architecture with Python scripts into all our workflows.”
The growing use of Nuke licences in future- and demand-oriented education also demonstrates the strength of Nuke’s prospects in the German market with its particular cost-benefit focus. According to the company, this continuously increases the availability of qualified personnel able to use the compositing software optimally and efficiently.
Nuke has first-class 3D compositing tools, supports stereoscopy and includes an efficient multichannel scanline rendering engine. Version 6.0, due for release by the end of the year, adds a completely newly programmed rotoscope and paint toolset. It works non-destructively and integrates Nuke’s animation and tracking features with support for object-oriented attributes such as motion blur. The Foundry also adds its widely praised Keylight keyer to the standard feature set.
“At the same time, NukeX will appear and expand creative possibilities with a fully integrated 3D camera tracker. Lens-distortion tools will be added. FurnaceCore is also included—comprising Kronos, Optical Flow Retiming, grain and degrain tools, and rig removal, to name only a few of the twelve. The Foundry therefore offers two powerful versions for a broad range of applications in VFX production,” says Jürgen Firsching.
Nuke remains priced at US$3,500 in version 6.0; NukeX will be introduced at a price of US$6,000.
