TANDBERG, the worldwide market leader in telepresence and HD videoconferencing systems, says it is launching a software upgrade for the TANDBERG Content Server. The new functions make it even easier for TCS users to record, edit and publish multimedia files in every common streaming format, including Flash. Video content can therefore be made available to a wide variety of users and end devices.
The TCS is an important tool for recording training sessions, lectures, presentations and videoconferences and making them available online. Flash is used by many companies as a standard streaming format. Thanks to the TCS’s Flash support, companies can now place a recorded videoconference on websites as content without first converting the video into another file format. The ability to communicate visually and quickly is a major economic advantage because both employees and customers can be kept up to date. Especially in critical situations, face-to-face information is understood more clearly and has a more convincing effect.
Illness-related absences from work also increase at this time of year. By enabling users of standards-based telepresence and videoconferencing systems to record video calls and archive them for the future, the TCS actively supports the continuity of business processes. Important employees who were absent from a meeting because of illness, for example, can therefore always learn about the current project status.
“We use the TANDBERG Content Server because it is the only recording and streaming tool that supports all common streaming formats—and does so in a single, easy-to-use device. The new Flash support makes it an even more powerful tool and opens up numerous new possibilities for offering leading companies worldwide reliable content management and straightforward distribution of their video content,” says Duncan Burbidge, CEO of Stream UK Media Services Ltd. “With the TANDBERG Content Server, we can record video and multimedia content using any standards-based videoconferencing system and provide it to our customers easily, in the highest quality and in a user-friendly format. Users can access the video content live or on demand with any video-capable end device. There are therefore no limits to distributing information in video or multimedia format. This is highly important in today’s business world.”
“Flash support for the TANDBERG Content Server expands the already powerful solution with streams that work across browsers, platforms and devices,” says Ira Weinstein, analyst and partner at Wainhouse Research. “The optimised editing function, SQL Server clustering and support for wideband audio make the TCS a powerful, complete streaming solution for companies, enabling them to edit video content and make it available directly to a large target audience.”
The TCS is a user-friendly solution that simplifies creating and distributing video content to improve every company’s efficiency and communication. The standards-based TCS is therefore the only complete solution able to use current and future investments in video communication effectively. It enables video streams as well as recordings that can be accessed on demand at any time from PC or Mac systems. Another new feature is the option to start a recording after a five-second delay, giving users time to prepare for the beginning of the recording. The improved editing function and automatic provision of video content simplify the development of new multimedia content for the internet and set entirely new standards for knowledge transfer and flexibility in video content.
“Watching someone give a presentation or explain a concept is far more impressive than merely reading about it in an email,” says Håkon Dahle, Chief Technologist at TANDBERG. “The TANDBERG Content Server is the only recording solution with Flash support that turns any standards-based video endpoint into a recording device for video content. The new function for recording video calls and making them available directly online increases the usefulness of video-communication solutions in an unprecedented way.”
The new TCS software upgrades will become available to TANDBERG customers during this quarter.
