Around 22.8 million people were enthusiastic about productions supported by FFF. This exceeds the 2008 viewing figures: in the previous year, around 18 million cinema-goers were recorded for FFF-funded films, the statement continues.
The year’s most successful German film to pass the million mark is Vicky the Viking from Rat Pack Filmproduktion, with 4.8 million admissions to date. Pope Joan from Constantin Film Produktion recorded a major success with around 2.2 million cinema-goers, closely followed by FFF-supported distributor release Slumdog Millionaire from Celador Films/Film4 with 2.0 million cinema-goers.
According to FFF, Männersache from Constantin Film Produktion reached 1.83 million admissions, Horst Schlämmer—Isch kandidiere reached 1.34 million through Blueverde Film Produktion and FFF distribution support, Maria, ihm schmeckt’s nicht! from Clausen+Wöbke+Putz Filmproduktion around 1.28 million, Lilly the Witch: The Dragon and the Magic Book from Blue Eyes Fiction and others 1.18 million, Desert Flower from Desert Flower Filmproductions 1.02 million, and Die wilden Hühner und das Leben from Bavaria Filmproduktion also passed the million mark with 1.0 million.
Prof. Dr Klaus Schaefer: “In 2009, FFF-funded productions again proved to be true box-office magnets. Together with cinema owners, I am delighted about EUR 142 million in box-office revenue from ‘our’ films. And of course I am also pleased that we were again able to take first place—and this time by a clear margin—in the championship for the most cinema-goers launched by our friends in Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia. Given the strength of our film location, FFF Bayern can look confidently towards the new year, 2010.”
