NVIDIA’s solution for 3D films consists of a PC with a GeForce GPU, NVIDIA 3D Vision shutter glasses and a new 1080p 3D LCD from Acer. The solution demonstrates the new experiences consumers will receive from 3D Blu-ray presentations. Even before the Blu-ray Disc Association’s official announcement of the 3D Blu-ray standard specification and product presentations at the forthcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January, NVIDIA worked with leading playback-software developers including ArcSoft, Corel, CyberLink and Sonic to ensure seamless support for 3D Blu-ray content.

According to the company, during recent weeks NVIDIA successfully demonstrated playback of 3D content encoded using the AVC Multi-View Codec, or AVC-MVC. AVC-MVC is widely expected to become the standard for encoding 3D content on Blu-ray Discs. This enables encoded content to be decoded in real time using selected NVIDIA GPUs, including the GeForce GT 240 and the next generation of GF100 GPUs based on NVIDIA’s “Fermi” architecture. PCs with GeForce GPUs combined with NVIDIA 3D Vision shutter glasses are the ideal platform for watching Blu-ray 3D films and 3D photographs, as well as playing more than 400 PC games that already support 3D Vision technology.

“3D Blu-ray will become the leading format for viewing 3D films at home,” explains Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “PCs with CyberLink PowerDVD Ultra and NVIDIA 3D Vision will offer film lovers the perfect platform for enjoying 3D in an impressive way.”

A 3D Vision-compatible monitor is required to enjoy future 3D Hollywood blockbusters at home. Leading display manufacturers will launch corresponding devices in 2010 with the 1080p HD standard, a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 and 120 Hz. Acer will be the first provider to present the new GD245HQ and GD235HZ LCDs.

NVIDIA will demonstrate 3D Blu-ray playback with GeForce GPUs combined with NVIDIA 3D Vision technology at CES in Las Vegas from January 7 to 11, 2010, at stand 35912 in South Hall 4.
