The Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy became one of the most successful adventure epics of all time, not least through its monumental, breathtaking visual language. With the first Blu-ray release of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy on April 9, 2010, Peter Jackson’s visual masterpiece will once again provide a very special home-entertainment experience, Warner Home Video explains. The trilogy consists of six discs and offers BD-Live connectivity. In addition to the six-disc box set, all three instalments will also be available individually as one-disc versions.
The Blu-ray release will continue the impressive success story of The Lord of the Rings franchise: the three Lord of the Rings films—The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King—won a total of 17 Oscars. The third instalment alone won Best Picture, Directing, Adapted Screenplay and eight further Oscars. This record of eleven Oscars in total has not yet been surpassed by any other film. Jackson’s motion-picture trilogy adapts J.R.R. Tolkien’s bestselling novels: an epic journey involving the humans, hobbits, elves, dwarves and other inhabitants and cultures of Middle-earth. The ancient conflict between good and evil is told with fantastic special effects and intense emotion.
In spring 2010, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will also release a new video game, Aragorn’s Quest, the statement continues. Players take on the role of the legendary Aragorn to relive the greatest adventures from the film trilogy. It is the first game from the world of The Lord of the Rings for Nintendo Wii, and will also be released for PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS and PSP.
