With the aim of enabling smaller animation companies in the state to join forces and secure larger contracts, the “Digital av Initiative Ba-Wü” is to be established in Baden-Württemberg’s creative-industries sector. Digital audiovisual media are currently undergoing rapid technical development. New Cluster Manager Johannes Kuemmel has now begun work at MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg, the organisation responsible for the cluster initiative.
The objective of his work will be to develop the Stuttgart/Ludwigsburg region into a leading German media location for digital film-industry productions. By pooling the capacity of relevant companies and supporting institutions, the aim is to achieve international public visibility. Developing new, innovative production techniques and methods can thereby strengthen the local film industry.
Digital audiovisual production methods—including, above all, digital animated films, VFX or digital visual effects, and digital post-production—can save time and costs in film production and reveal new virtual dimensions.
The initiative also aims to retain at the location the emerging talent trained to an excellent standard in digital animation in Baden-Württemberg, for example at the Ludwigsburg Film Academy, and keep its potential locally.
The project’s total cost over three years is just under EUR 500,000. Half will be covered by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). National co-financing will come from state funds from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as funds from MFG Film Funding and the State Institute for Communication.
