Nvidia Introduces New Tegra Processors

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nvidia is presenting its next Tegra generation, designed for high performance and low power consumption in mobile devices such as media players, smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks and tablet PCs.

At the heart of the Tegra solution are eight independent processors—including the world’s first dual-core CPU for mobile applications. The processors are used together or independently to optimise power consumption. Thanks to the ultra-low-power design, Tegra processors can play up to 16 hours of HD video or 140 hours of music without recharging the battery.

The next Tegra generation opens a new dimension in mobile-computing performance through:

* Ten times the speed of current smartphone processors and up to four times the performance of the previous Tegra processor generation

* TSMC 40 nm process with Active Power Management

The Tegra Developer Kit is available to developers at http://www.developer.nvidia.com/tegra. It enables them to design applications for Tegra-based devices such as tablet PCs, smartbooks and smartphones.

At CES 2010, NVIDIA is presenting several revolutionary mobile solutions based on the new Tegra generation at stand 35912 in South Hall 4.

Among them, NVIDIA is presenting a Full HD tablet-PC solution for 4G wireless networks. It was jointly developed by Seattle engineering company Innovative Converged Devices (ICD), NVIDIA, Verizon Wireless and Motorola. Its components are an ICD tablet PC, an NVIDIA Tegra processor and a Motorola 4G wireless modem. Communication is intended to take place over the 4G LTE network announced by Verizon Wireless.
