The jury’s reasoning:
“Like the young lead actor David Kross, cinematographer Jana Marsik skilfully moves between the two worlds of the film ‘Same Same But Different’. The clarity of the images in Germany stands in exciting contrast to the very lively, multilayered visual language in Cambodia. In doing so, she always makes skilful use of the existing moods without ever losing the correct perspective on the actors. The result is a visual language that succeeds in fascinating AND serving the story.
With ‘Lippels Traum’, Jana Marsik impressively demonstrated her great range in another film at this year’s film awards.”
According to HFF, Jana Marsik studied at the Film and Television University “Konrad Wolf” in Babelsberg from 1997 to 2003. In 2002, she received emerging-talent awards from the German Camera Award Cologne for her camera work on the feature film “Long Shot” and the short film “Schlorkbabies an der Raststätte”, it continues.
In November 2007, the cinematographer was appointed the first city filmmaker by Potsdam Mayor Jann Jakobs. During her time as city filmmaker, she supervised four film projects by HFF students dealing with Potsdam as a science location.
