The interactive widescreen pen display replaces the blackboard and creates a personal atmosphere in lecture theatres and classrooms

The new PL-2200 from Wacom, the leading manufacturer of pen tablets, interactive pen displays and intuitive interface solutions, is designed especially for the education sector. As with the other interactive pen displays in the PL series, teachers can work directly on the display with the PL-2200’s pen to make lessons or lectures interactive and individual. The PL-2200 is an intelligent and innovative presentation tool for lecture theatres and classrooms.

As the first interactive pen display in the PL series, the PL-2200 offers a widescreen display and full HD resolution. This allows the presenter to work with high precision over a generously sized area, benefiting pupils or students in particular. The PL-2200’s screen measures 21.6 inches.

Working with an interactive pen display connected to a video projector allows teachers and lecturers to maintain eye contact with their audience at any time during the lesson or lecture. This enables them continuously to pick up signals from pupils or students, observe their reactions and interact with them better overall. A more productive and motivating atmosphere can thus be created.

Working directly on the display with the pen offers the advantage of perfect hand-eye coordination and enables fast data input. Handwritten notes, sketches, drawings and diagrams can be updated in real time or added spontaneously, leading to livelier communication in lessons. The presenter can take up pupils’ or students’ ideas and suggestions at any time and incorporate them directly into the presentation slides. This increases interactivity, creativity and willingness to discuss. Handwritten notes created during lessons can be printed and distributed directly. Alternatively, they can be stored online so that both pupils or students and teachers can access them from home.

Further innovations in the PL-2200 include improved video capabilities through DVI input and output. This allows both analogue and digital sources to be used without a DVI splitter. Users can also incorporate different media types - such as the internet, audio files or digital documents - into their lessons and use the PL-2200 as a central hub through which all these media can be controlled.

The PL-2200 has a video scaler and therefore supports both widescreen data and conventional aspect ratios. Its anti-glare surface coating reduces reflections on the screen. The easily adjustable display stand offers maximum operating comfort. A USB 2.0 hub with two ports makes it easy to access files through the PL-2200 or transfer them to it.

Wacom’s patented pen technology offers a natural tool for handwriting and sketching, as well as navigating with the pen on the screen. The ergonomically shaped, cordless and battery-free pen recognises 512 different pressure levels and has a freely programmable two-sided switch. The PL-2200’s technology minimises pen fluctuations and instability, allowing the mouse pointer to be controlled even faster and more precisely.

About the PL series

The PL series was designed for users who want to combine the advantages of a pen tablet with a high-quality LCD display to improve productivity and ergonomics at the workplace.

Other interactive pen displays in the series are the 19-inch PL-900 and the 17-inch PL-720, both with SXGA resolution (1,280 x 1,024 pixels), as well as the 15-inch PL-521 with TFT screen.

Bundled software

The PL-2200 includes Uniboard presentation and teaching software. This easy-to-use application supports the new interactive pen display’s pressure sensitivity and works on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Pricing and availability

The PL-2200 is available from March 2, 2010, and costs 1,799.90 euros including VAT. The warranty period is two years.
