In the opinion of most experts, stereo 3D is the future of cinema. At the media location of Bavaria, this future is already at home. Bavaria offers producers of S3D films everything needed for preproduction, production, postproduction and visual effects.
The Audiovisual Media Cluster has organised an impressive insight into the capabilities of companies in Bavaria together with Stereo 3D Experts, Virtual Experience, Constantin Film, Caligari, KUK Filmproduktion, Trixter Film and the technology and service providers P+S Technik, IRIDAS., ARRI Film+TV and ARRI Rental, ScanlineVFX, CinePostproduction, as well as the newly founded partnership between TXP - Trixter Productions and games developer Crytek.
At the traditional FFF reception on the occasion of the Berlinale, guests at the Bavarian Representation can literally get a picture of Bavaria’s 3D expertise:
Visitors are likely to be particularly interested in first glimpses of two new Constantin Film productions. It will show excerpts and working material from the S3D productions RESIDENT EVIL 4 and the animated film DIE KONFERENZ DER TIERE, based on the book by Erich Kästner, which are due to reach cinemas in 2010.
Caligari will show passages from RITTER ROST, also a 3D animation; Virtual Experience, a Bavarian pioneer in S3D film production, will present trailers for its films LEVEL, SOCCER, DELUSION, LAST GAME and CYBERHEIDI; and KUK Filmproduktion will show excerpts from various S3D documentary and science films, including a trailer for the Nürburgring 24-hour race filmed in S3D.
The broad spectrum of film technology from Bavaria and services for every stage of 3D production is represented by the companies participating in the showcase: P+S Technik, which will show both the classic standard 3D camera rig and the freestyle rig made from carbon material for Formula 1 racing cars, which will be equipped with the SI 2K 3D camera system. Using trailers for various 3D feature films, ARRI will demonstrate its capabilities in digital 3D postproduction. IRIDAS. will present a stereo 3D colour and depth grading unit, while CinePostproduction will also highlight its colour-and-depth grading services. ScanlineVFX, based in Bavaria, is one of the most internationally sought-after providers of visual effects.
Trixter represents S3D postproduction and 2D-to-3D conversion technology and introduces its newly acquired partner, Germany’s largest games studio, Crytek. Together, the companies will develop software for S3D previsualisation and film production based on CryEngine.
ARRI, Scanline VFX and P+S Technik alone account for three Bavaria-based recipients of Technical Oscar awards participating in this joint display of concentrated stereo 3D expertise from Bavaria.
