The cooperation is based on the use of iClone 4.0 3D animation software in L4’s educational programmes. iClone 4.0 makes it possible to combine real video productions with real-time 3D film animations. According to L4, the advantage of this machinima application is that animations are rendered in real time. This means there are no waiting times when making changes or redesigning scenes, producing a genuine time advantage and therefore significant cost savings in 3D film projects and virtual television projects. This makes iClone 4.0 the ideal tool for storyboarding major film productions, artistically realising animations or producing realistic 3D film projects.
As part of the cooperation, the L4 Institute is integrating machinima into the curriculum of its six-month “Postproducer” continuing-education course, its three-month “Motion Design/3D” continuing-education course and, among others, its 3D/Game Design degree programme. Using iClone 4.0, participants are prepared for rapidly changing production processes in 3D projects. L4 expects growing demand for highly qualified specialists in this field over the coming years.
L4 Kreation, the L4 Institute’s in-house media-production unit, has already used machinima technology successfully to produce the animated series “Mo & Ma Explain the World to You”. It was broadcast on ZDF’s morning programme in 2009 and produced using iClone, the company adds.
According to L4, it also offers special qualifications for Reallusion products, including for lecturers and teachers at other educational institutions.
Reallusion will also present its collaboration with L4 at the didacta education trade fair in Cologne. The company can be found in Hall 9, stand E-061, from March 16 to 20.
