Avid today announced a substantial expansion of the Interplay product family. At the heart of the new developments is the acquisition of Blue Order Solutions AG, which expands the current PAM solution (Production Asset Management, or the management of production assets) into a complete MAM solution (Media Asset Management, or the management of media assets). Large media companies are looking for solutions that enable rapid adaptation to the continually changing business environment. By using Interplay, they have a comprehensive and open system for supporting business processes, creating media catalogues, and functions for collaboration across departments and divisions, enabling them to develop new sources of revenue and save operating costs. The Interplay product family is the basis of the Avid Integrated Media Enterprise (IME) working environment, which was also introduced today.
What is new in Interplay?
Avid’s Interplay products now include a new module, Interplay Media Asset Manager, formerly Blue Order’s Media Archive. This module expands content-related workflows for collecting, indexing, cataloguing, managing, delivering and distributing rich media. The solution gives users a better overview of their media assets, allows them to work across teams and even countries, and enables them to program workflows precisely tailored to their requirements. The new benefits of the expanded Interplay solution include:
• Workflow orchestration: New functions improve process scheduling and management, job prioritisation, notifications and process-design options. This enables users to comprehensively automate complex tasks for ingesting, producing and distributing content.
• Improved metadata functions: This is an open media catalogue that accommodates all types of media, logs asset histories and provides multiple levels of time-based metadata. This enables users to determine easily which assets are available, what rights they hold to this content, and how the content can be made available for reuse.
• Modular, open platform: The feature-rich service-oriented architecture (SOA) is based on web services and enables users to integrate new and existing technology investments and unify team workflows throughout the organisation, regardless of location, on a single integrated media platform.
Interplay Media Asset Manager will become part of the Interplay product line. This is a family of various Interplay products encompassing customers’ processes for media collection, production, archiving and distribution. The Avid Professional Services team, now supplemented by Blue Order’s experts, can successfully support customers through comprehensive services for workflow design, creation and customisation, project management, change management and improved use of media assets – ultimately achieving attractive ROIs.
Through improved transparency in asset inventories and collaboration functions, broadcasters, post-production studios and educational institutions can expand their production, media archiving, rights management and distribution processes across various channels, thus ensuring optimal adaptation to their respective business models. Customers can therefore act much more quickly when creating and delivering content and make better use of existing assets.
