Quo Vadis 2010 Programme Announced

At this year’s “Quo Vadis” developers’ conference, taking place as part of the “German Games Days” at the Berlin Congress Center from April 27 to 29, 2010, a series of high-calibre speakers from Germany and abroad will once again share their expert knowledge.

Among others, Bob Wallace, Nils Holger-Henning and Thomas Bidaux will address the subject areas of “Online & Social Games”, “Communities” and “Funding & Financing”, it said.

On Wednesday, April 28, according to the information, Thomas Bidaux, an internationally recognised figure in the online-gaming industry, will provide insights into the European free-to-play market. In his presentation, Bidaux will examine the extremely successful financing model through microtransactions using specific examples, analysing both well-known brands and smaller projects. Thomas Bidaux began his online-games career more than 10 years ago at France Telecom, where he was responsible for the MMORPG milestone “Dark Age of Camelot”. After moving to NCsoft, he managed several major MMOs such as “Guild Wars” and “City of Heroes”. In 2008, he founded ICO Partners, an agency that advises independent game developers entering the European market.

On Thursday, April 29, Nils Holger-Henning of Bigpoint will trace a success story in his presentation “How 100 Users Became 100,000,000”. In his presentation, Bigpoint’s CCO explains how the free-to-play model was used to build one of the world’s largest and most profitable games portals from a small company in Hamburg. The presentation will focus in particular on building and maintaining a community.

Another international figure, Bob Wallace, director of the renowned international business and marketing consultancy Strategic Alternatives, will once again take part in “Quo Vadis”. Bob Wallace will be interviewed on Thursday, April 29, by Ralf Adam of Gameforge and Harald Riegler of Sproing. Together with Chris Taylor, CEO of independent development studio Gas Powered Games, Bob Wallace will also take part in the panel discussion “Opportunities for European Developers in International Comparison”.

The “Quo Vadis” developers’ conference and the “German Games Days” take place in Berlin for the fourth time from April 27 to 29, 2010, and provide insights into current trends in game development. As part of “German Games Days 2010”, the “German Computer Games Award” will also be presented in Berlin for the first time.
