Through this acquisition, Avid expands its product range with a large number of audio and video controllers. Euphonix products are to be marketed alongside its existing ICON line, intended to give customers a broader offering.

“This purchase is an excellent expansion of Avid’s portfolio. It enables us to offer our customers, from the independent music producer in a studio through to national broadcasters, a coordinated set of workflow solutions,” said Gary Greenfield, CEO of Avid. “We remain committed to offering interoperability and modularity across an extensive hardware and software system from Avid and third-party manufacturers. And as audio and video workflows converge increasingly, we are now well positioned to supply control surfaces that work in audio and video applications. This makes the content-creation process even more cost-effective for our customers.”

Avid also plans to develop an open standard protocol that expands cooperation between Euphonix controllers and a broad range of Avid and third-party audio and video solutions. Avid cited Media Composer and Pro Tools as examples.

For existing Euphonix customers, Avid will continue support for EuCon, the high-speed Ethernet protocol that enables connection to third-party software.
