For the Shanghai Expo, DI specialist Digital Magic integrated another CLIPSTER into its 4K DI pipeline. At the World Expo, Digital Magic is responsible for all film material in the Hong Kong Pavilion, the China Theme Pavilion and the Oil Industry Pavilion, and was therefore interested exclusively in high-performance 4K DI gateways with real-time capability. CLIPSTER meets this requirement and enables Digital Magic to run an efficient DCI workflow.
CLIPSTER’s ingest and playout capabilities are essential in this workflow. In addition to DPX, Cineon, TGA and TIFF, the advanced DI workstation supports more than 100 other graphics formats. CLIPSTER also handles formats such as JPEG2000, QuickTime, Windows Media, MXF, MPEG 1/2, Panasonic DVCPRO, AVC-Intra, Sony XDCAM and Avid DNxHD.
The DI specialists from Hong Kong were particularly impressed by CLIPSTER’s ability to play out dual 4K material in real time for the Oil Industry Pavilion’s 4D cinemas on screens measuring 24 x 7 metres. Digital Magic also benefits from CLIPSTER’s Digital Acquisition Package, which brings together multiple RAW datasets in a single timeline. The award-winning DI workstation performs both decoding and demosaicing of all RAW formats in real time. For the workflow required by the Shanghai Expo project, the 4K RED material passes through every process in real time, including conforming, editing, colour correction and versioning – across different display systems.
The new RED workflow with CLIPSTER integrates seamlessly into Digital Magic’s existing infrastructure and provides unique workflows: immediate quality control, full-resolution RGB 4:4:4 12-bit and accelerated processes. As a DCI mastering station, CLIPSTER generates the 4K DPX data required for colour correction at maximum speed. In the newly created workflow, Digital Magic uses both the DCDM/KCP KDM key function in CLIPSTER and its 4K DCDM/DCP mastering features.
Digital Magic also benefits from the DI workstation’s output capabilities, such as direct connection to digital projectors: four projectors deliver large-format projections of 4K and 3D material. CLIPSTER processes this data in real time.
