Sales of “AVATAR – The Journey to Pandora” on Blu-ray and DVD began on Friday. According to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the biggest film of all time continued its triumph in home entertainment and had already broken every record in Germany as well.
With a total of well over 700,000 Blu-rays and DVDs sold in Germany and Austria during the first two days of sales, “AVATAR” was already the best-selling film on Blu-ray and DVD on its first day of sales as well as the best-selling film on Blu-ray and DVD during its first sales weekend.
A total of 250,000 film fans from Germany and Austria chose the Blu-ray Disc version.
“Avatar” also broke every record in its country of production. As Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced, Cameron’s sci-fi spectacle sold more than 2.7 million copies in the Blu-ray version in North America alone. This broke the previous record of 2.5 million discs sold, previously held by Warner Home Video’s “The Dark Knight”. However, “Avatar” achieved this in four days, whereas “The Dark Knight” needed 18 months.
Combined Blu-ray and DVD sales for North America reached approximately 6.7 million copies since the release.
According to the company’s estimates, “Avatar” is also giving fans’ home equipment a substantial boost. They are increasingly opting for Blu-ray players in order to watch the elaborate CGI film at home in the best possible quality.
