Panasonic will equip its next-generation 3D Blu-ray players with DivX Plus HD playback. Digital-media company DivX, Inc. and Panasonic announced this today. The new range of Blu-ray players will play DivX Plus HD video in the MKV container, delivering a cinema-like video experience in HD resolution up to 1080p.
The DMP-BDT300 is Panasonic’s first Full HD 3D Blu-ray player and the first with DivX Plus HD certification. The device will be available in Europe from the end of April 2010 and soon afterwards in Russia and Oceania. The introduction of 3D home devices provides Panasonic customers with an unparalleled 3D experience and immerses them in a realistic 3D world.
DivX Plus HD certification is DivX’s highest level of certification. It is optimised for consumer-electronics devices and supports playback of any content created with DivX software. The recently released DivX Plus software (available at http://www.divx.com) creates and plays H.264 video in the MKV container. DivX Plus HD-certified devices play all older versions of DivX video, premium Hollywood content in DivX format, and DivX Plus HD video files with the .mkv file extension and AAC audio that were created with other software packages.
DivX is known for high performance, image quality and interoperability across all DivX-certified devices. DivX’s comprehensive digital-media solution supports the majority of high-resolution internet video and brings it to customers’ televisions and other consumer-electronics devices.
DivX also provides a secure solution for playing well-known Hollywood films from the major studios. Many providers of Hollywood content over the internet already use the DivX format for distribution.
