Since spring 2010, the CLIPSTER DI workstation has been an essential part of the workflows at the Mosfilm film group. Mosfilm is one of Russia’s best-known film studios and has a broad range of equipment comprising cameras, DI suites, synchronisation and sound studios. At Mosfilm, the DVS flagship is used primarily for DCI mastering and enables encrypted data packages to be generated at maximum speed.

CLIPSTER replaces Mosfilm’s existing DCI mastering system, considerably accelerating the process. All stages of work from the DSM (Digital Source Master) to the DCP (Digital Cinema Package) now take place on one system, eliminating time-consuming transfer processes across multiple components. The entire process is extremely convenient, transparent and time-saving, since Mosfilm’s editors can use CLIPSTER® to check the quality of the finished DCP directly and, for example, also change colour spaces and immediately view them on the cinema screen.

Mosfilm set up a cinema-sized preview room specifically for CLIPSTER, tailored to its 3D projects. Its real-time requirement was also met by the DI workstation’s latest DCI capabilities: CLIPSTER® generates 3D DCPs (Digital Cinema Packages) in real time and accelerates DCI mastering and 3D subtitling thanks to high-quality DVS hardware.

Mosfilm is particularly impressed by the DI workstation’s wide range of possible applications, such as mastering, conforming and multi-format capabilities. Playing uncompressed data at the highest quality was especially important to Mosfilm so that it could process its annual volume of film material efficiently. The award-winning DI workstation combines RAW data from RED, ARRI D-20/D-21, Phantom or Silicon Imaging SI-2K cameras in a single timeline and performs both decoding and demosaicing of all RAW formats in real time.

Igor Bogdasarov, Chief Engineer at Mosfilm: “We are extremely satisfied with CLIPSTER. The installation went smoothly and the DI workstation is a permanent and reliable part of our workflow. Thanks to DVS, we can now achieve extremely high-quality DCI mastering and thus offer our customers a service that is unique in Russia.”

Juri Freiberger, Business Development and Pre-Sales Eastern Europe at DVS: “Mosfilm is one of the largest and most renowned film groups in Europe. It is very important to us to work with such a recognised company and thereby support the expanding Russian film market with DVS technology.”
