Director Susan Gluth made the documentary about three female employees at a Hamburg laundry. The film received numerous awards, including the 2009 North German Film Award in the Best Documentary category. At the 2010 RiverRun International Film Festival, “Water and Soap” received first prize in the Best Direction category.

Short synopsis:
Tatjana, Gerti and Monika work hard in an ageing laundry in Hamburg. Their earnings are low, and the consequences of globalisation raise doubts in viewers about whether things will improve in the near future. Nevertheless, they master their arduous everyday lives with dignity, quiet heroines of hope who occasionally capture a small piece of happiness.
