With the PL-1600, Wacom presents a new interactive pen display in 16-inch widescreen format designed for the education sector. The PL series therefore consists of three models: the new PL-1600, the larger PL-720 in 17-inch format, and the PL-2200 in 21.6-inch widescreen format. Each of these interactive pen displays enables teachers to make lessons or lectures interactive and individual. Every model is an intelligent and innovative presentation tool for modern lecture theatres or classrooms.
The PL series was developed especially for users who want to increase productivity and improve ergonomics. Working with the digital pen directly on the display offers the advantage of perfect hand-eye coordination and allows data to be entered quickly. Handwritten notes, sketches, drawings and diagrams can be updated in real time or added spontaneously, leading to livelier classroom communication. Teachers can thus pick up their pupils’ or students’ ideas and suggestions at any time and incorporate them directly into the presentation slides. This increases interactivity, creativity and willingness to discuss.
Teachers and lecturers working with an interactive pen display connected to a video projector can also maintain eye contact with their audience at any time during a lesson or lecture. In this way, they can respond continuously to signals from pupils or students, observe their reactions and interact with them better overall. This makes it possible to create a more productive and motivating atmosphere.
New Widescreen Displays
The PL-2200 is a 21.6-inch interactive pen display with full HD resolution and a generous widescreen work area for the presenter. By contrast, the PL-1600, with its compact 16-inch widescreen display, offers an ideal mobile solution for users who frequently change classrooms.
The widescreen displays of both models enable the presenter to work with high precision over a generously sized area, which ultimately also benefits pupils or students. Another special feature of the two devices is improved video capability through DVI input and output. Both analogue and digital sources can therefore be used without a DVI splitter. Users can also incorporate various media types – such as the internet, audio files or digital documents – into their lessons and use the devices as a central hub through which all these media can be controlled.
Both the PL-2200 and PL-1600 have a video scaler and therefore support data in both widescreen format and the conventional aspect ratio. The PL-2200 has also been equipped with an anti-glare surface coating that reduces reflections on the screen. The easily adjustable display stand offers maximum ease of use. A USB 2.0 hub with two ports makes it easy to access data or transfer it to the device.
The PL-720
Also part of the series is the PL-720 interactive pen display. This model offers a 17-inch LCD monitor in a compact 4:3 format. Thanks to its small size, the PL-720 requires little desk space and can therefore be integrated comfortably and easily into an existing teaching or presentation environment.
Interactive Pen-Display Technology
Wacom’s patented pen technology provides a natural tool for handwriting, sketching and navigating with the pen directly on the screen. The ergonomically shaped cordless and battery-free pen recognises 512 different pressure levels and has a freely programmable two-way side switch.
Bundled Software
The presentation and teaching software Uniboard is included with every model in the PL series. This easy-to-use application supports the pressure sensitivity of the interactive pen displays and works under both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
Prices and Availability
All three models are available now. The PL-1600 costs 1,099.90 euros, the PL-720 is priced at 1,189.90 euros and the PL-2200 at 1,799.90 euros. All prices include VAT. The warranty period for all devices is two years.
