According to EA, Crysis 2, the latest first-person shooter from German development studio Crytek, will be able to display a true stereoscopic 3D image on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

“At Crytek, we have always strived to raise the bar for what is technically possible. Now that 3D technology is revolutionising cinema and television films, we are excited to release Crysis 2 in 3D. This will make it the first major action game to support true stereoscopic 3D,” says Crytek head Cevat Yerli. “The 3D experience represents a quantum leap in interactive entertainment. With the same story and action as in 2D, the additional 3D effect immerses players even more deeply in the game world.”

Crysis 2 places the player in a devastated New York, where an attack by a terrifying alien race is in full swing. The extraterrestrial attackers’ weapons and extraordinary sensory organs test the player to the utmost. The protagonist is granted superhuman abilities through his Nanosuit. It is up to him to turn it into the ultimate weapon in order to save New York from the invaders.

The game will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and supports 2D and 3D display on all platforms.
