Primera Technology is now equipping the Blu-ray versions of its burning and printing robots from the well-known Disc Publisher family with eSATA interfaces. As a result, the burners in the duplication systems now operate at 12x speed. Previously, 8x speed was the highest available. Users can now transfer videos, music files, photos and all other data intended for storage on external media to the blue discs much faster.
The technical innovation is that “external Serial ATA,” or eSATA for short, increases transfer speed sixfold compared with conventional USB 2.0 interfaces. This alone enables the built-in burners to process jobs more quickly. Another advantage: because eSATA eliminates conversion of data signals from USB to ATA, less electronics are required.
“Despite its faltering start, we are convinced that the Blu-ray Disc will establish itself in the long term as the number-one storage medium – initially certainly in the business sector, but with some delay among consumers too,” predicts Primera Managing Director Andreas Hoffmann. “As backing up video files is becoming increasingly popular and these in particular have a high volume, speed is the primary concern during transfer. That is why we decided to convert our Blu-ray duplication systems. To my knowledge, there is no faster method on the market for producing professionally burned and printed Blu-ray media.”
Primera Technology addresses various target groups with its burning and printing robots. These range from consumers who want to expand their private film collections or duplicate recordings of celebrations, through self-employed professionals to medium-sized companies. The portfolio of duplication systems is correspondingly diverse. The Disc Publisher SE Blu, for example, processes up to twenty optical media in one operation, while the Disc Publisher Pro Xi Blu handles up to one hundred. With the same capacity, the Disc Publisher Xi2 Blu and Disc Publisher XRP Blu have two drives in addition to other enhancements.
