The 27-inch LED Cinema Display, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, has an integrated webcam, microphone and speakers, as well as a USB 2.0 hub. The device is expected to be available in September for a price of one thousand US dollars. A glossy glass frame and an aluminium stand complete its appearance.
The Mac Pro series has also received a much-needed update. Up to 12 processor cores are now installed. Buyers can now choose Intel quad-core or six-core Xeon processors, although they access only a shared 12 MB L3 cache. Display duties are handled by an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics processor with 1 GB of memory, or optionally the slightly faster ATI Radeon HD 5870.
Mac users can finally access SSDs too, and the Mac Pro can be supplied with a 512 GB drive on request. However, this appears to be distributed across four slots. In total, for 2,400 euros the customer therefore receives a 2.8 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon W3530 processor, 3 GB of DDR3 memory, an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics chip with 1 GB GDDR5, two Mini DisplayPorts, one DVI port and a 1 TB Serial ATA 3 Gb/s hard drive (7200 rpm).
