The Ultrastar hard drives were developed specifically for use in data centres and enjoy a reputation for high reliability among photographers, musicians and filmmakers. The decision to install UltrastarTM is due primarily to the high demands imposed by the increasing use of HD content.
Enterprise SATA hard drives, developed specifically for enterprise applications, are particularly suitable for storage solutions with continuously high access rates, such as NAS and RAID systems and media servers. Enterprise hard drives have a mean MTBF of 1.2 million. The drives must run despite high temperature fluctuations, and faulty bits may occur only at a ratio of 1:10 to the power of 15. Performance fluctuations caused by vibrations in rack servers and multi-drive storage arrays are reduced by means of sensors and firmware.
