Automated Slimming Treatment in Film

At SIGGRAPH Asia, the Max Planck Institute is presenting the next stage of automated video editing: new algorithms and a body-shape library allow human proportions to be changed – at the touch of a button, characters in the film become thinner, taller and gain muscles like Hercules.

Christian Theobalt and his team from the Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication will demonstrate the next stage of automated character adjustment in video footage in a paper at “SIGGRAPH Asia 2010,” taking place in December.

This system allows the proportions of a human character in any video footage to be adjusted simply and quickly.

This works through the use of a library of human shapes created from scans of real people. The software then transfers the proportions to people in the video and shifts them to new proportions within the parameters.
