In the NXCAM product line, Sony today announced the development of a new Super 35mm CMOS camcorder aimed at professional camera operators. In early summer 2011, Sony intends to use it to clean up the entry-level digital film-production market.
Since the high-end sector for digital poductions is already served by the F35 and SRW-9000PL “Cinealta” camcorders, the entry-level class is now to be supplied by the previously presented PMW-F3 and the “NXCAM” HD camcorder announced today.
More precise data is not yet known, only that the same sensor as in the larger F3 is used – which would make a 35mm sensor and the NEX lens range available for a provisional price of around 6,000 euros (without guarantee), or, through the underlying E-mount, the lens system of the Sony α series. Lenses from the NEX-5, 3 and NEX-VG10, as well as those of future E-mount models, can therefore be used with the new camcorder.
