The PMW-TD300 shoulder model gives users more flexibility for live 3D recording. “This new camera addresses many of the requirements of live 3D productions and, on location, provides a perfect complement to the HD cameras currently used on 3D rigs by leading production companies. Creative professional users can therefore draw on flexible, mobile technology for 3D recording,” says Olivier Bovis, Head of AV Media, Sony Professional Europe.
According to Sony, the PMW-TD300 is equipped with a dual 1/2" Exmor 3CMOS sensor with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The camcorder is based on the XDCAM EX format and offers users recording to solid-state memory with the associated benefits of a file-based workflow.
When recording in 3D, signals for the left and right eye are recorded simultaneously to separate SxS cards. A total of four SxS card slots are available, two slots for each view. Thanks to straightforward handling, users can shoot stable 3D images with the PMW-TD300 in mobile shooting environments and from difficult-to-access camera positions.
A 45 mm distance between the axes enables different recording ranges when capturing high-quality 3D, particularly for near-side shots with a convergence distance of at least 1.2 m. Thanks to a newly developed dual-lens system, complete synchronisation is provided with highly precise focus and zoom, as well as accurate aperture control.
Users can switch between the PMW-TD300’s 2D and 3D modes. In 2D mode, the image from each lens is recorded separately to one card.
