NAB 2011: VENICE Points to a 3D Future

DVS adds stereoscopic ingest, playout and realtime correction to its VENICE multichannel video server.

At stand SL3305, DVS showed its multichannel VENICE video server with an enhanced feature set. For two years, VENICE has successfully positioned itself as a future-proof solution for realtime recording and playback and, thanks to its open system structure, fits effortlessly into existing architectures. The video server supports a wide range of compressed formats and exchanges material with all common NLE systems, including Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro®.

According to the company, the latest highlights of the DVS video server include interaction with Avid’s ISIS® storage system and Interplay Media and Production Asset Management. The combination of DVS and Avid systems makes it possible to use VENICE for Live Video Ingest via HD-SDI and File Ingest from Professional DiscsTM or P2 storage media. Alongside Apple Final Cut Pro®, VENICE supports many other NLE systems; the video server’s codec diversity and multichannel capability give users great flexibility. Thanks to its “Edit while Write” function, video material can be viewed and edited while it is still being recorded.

VENICE can be used for both 3D ingest and playout and ensures an end-to-end stereoscopic live workflow. Equipped with the integrated STAN (Sterescopic Analyzer) software from the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, the DVS video server makes everyday work easier for S3D production teams: VENICE analyses and corrects parameters such as geometry, camera spacing and stereo baseline in realtime and handles both the recording and playout of stereoscopic 3D material in HD quality. According to DVS, this produces massive time savings and makes additional editing unnecessary.
