Among other things, the popular AJA Ki Pro Mini field recorder has now officially been named as a ProRes tool for the new RED EPIC. Thanks to an update, the AJA KONA video card (3G/4K) can now handle 4K playout and monitoring. The practical FiDO boxes (FiDO Fiber), which can transport video signals over fibre for up to 10 km, were also shown among the AJA mini-converters. The following variants are expected to be available:
• FiDO T-ST: single channel SDI to ST Fiber converter, with looping SDI output
• FiDO R-ST: Single channel ST Fiber to SDI converter, with dual SDI outputs
• FiDO T-SC: Single channel SDI to SC Fiber converter, with looping SDI output
• FiDO R-SC: Single channel SC Fiber to SDI converter, with dual SDI outputs

The Californians also provided a preview of their “Next Generation” video products. Under the codename “Riker”, the company is working on a multiformat I/O technology intended to enable flexible work with complex 5K-to-SD workflows.
AJA also wants to rely intensively on Thunderbolt technology in future to enable the handling and conversion of high data rates. “Phaser” is intended to become a clever portable I/O solution in this area. The forthcoming product is intended to support, among other things, HDMI 1.3a input and HDMI 1.4 output (including stereo), with 10-bit up/down/cross conversion, RS422 device control and professional reference LTC I/O.
