Paramount Home Entertainment presents one of a total of five titles from the Star Trek universe on DVD and Blu-ray every month from June 9 to October 6.

From today’s perspective, it is hard to imagine that the cult series Star Trek was cancelled on American television in 1969 because of low ratings. The series about Captain Kirk and his crew has since become a cult classic and has a large fan base.

A highlight for all “Trekkies” appears from Paramount Home Entertainment on June 9: the complete collector’s box with all three seasons on DVD and Blu-ray.

The special features “The Best Moments in Star Trek” or the short documentaries “Life Beyond Star Trek” about Walter Koenig (Ensign Pavel Andreievich Chekov), Leonard Nimoy (Lieutenant Spock) and William Shatner (James Tiberius Kirk) beam every fan with joy into the infinite reaches of space.
In addition to the original series, the Blu-ray includes an elaborately remastered version with improved sound and visual effects. In addition to “The World of Rod Roddenberry at ComicCon 2009”, the bonus material includes a rare and completely restored version of the episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before”.

But that is by no means the end of the Star Trek highlights on DVD. From July to October, Paramount Home Entertainment will release four more series instalments.
Starting July 7, Star Trek – Next Generation travels to the 24th century; just under a month later, on August 4, fans can experience the adventures on the Deep Space 9 space station.
Star Trek – Voyager appears on September 8, and from October 6 Star Trek – Enterprise heads into distant galaxies full of mysteries.

A space kiss that made history When the series “Star Trek – The Original Series” was first broadcast on American television in 1966, it was far ahead of its time. Two decades after the end of the Second World War, the producers of Star Trek showed how men and women from different peoples and worlds fought together aboard the starship USS Enterprise NCC-1701 against aggressive Klingons, Romulans and completely inexplicable phenomena.

The role of Lieutenant Uhura, played by Nichelle Nichols, went down in television history: Nichols was not only one of the first Black actresses to play a woman in a senior professional position, she was also the first Black woman to kiss a white man on US television. That man was none other than Captain Kirk (William Shatner).

The sci-fi series, initially ridiculed, which takes viewers into the years 2264 to 2269, soon achieved cult status after its cancellation in 1969. The numerous successor series were also loved by fans worldwide, but the original remains unsurpassed, not least because of the experimental, naive charm of the 1960s.
