Anyone who has always been annoyed by the 5DII’s mini-HDMI output now gets the LockPort, a bracket system that adds an HDMI output which, in turn, is ideal for the various digital field recorders. Even if the LockPort may not be the smallest accessory in the filmmaker’s bag, it will probably quickly make up for the weight disadvantage.
The LockPort HDMI adapter is available for 99 dollars, consists of a supporting base plate that screws into the tripod thread, and is intended to translate the camera’s mini-HDMI port into a full-size HDMI output. The extension is available with the port facing forward or backward; for an additional 40 dollars, both versions are also available together. So far the adapter is available only for the Canon 5D Mark II; an adapter version for the 7D is to follow from mid-November.
