The NewTek software, which can be used to create 3D content for film and broadcast productions as well as architectural visualisations and game design, is said to have been expanded with several tools. The Instancing feature allows a group of objects to be duplicated without elaborate storage capacity. This tool is also said to allow the cloned objects to be adjusted and positioned.
The Flocking feature is said to allow moving groups such as birds, fish or aircraft to be animated realistically, while the Motion Modifier can calculate the group behaviour of neighbouring objects. As already promised in NewTek’s announcement, the Fracture and Bullet Dynamics features are also included and are said to be particularly suitable for realistic explosions through physically based animation.
This release also includes the Virtual Studio and Interchange Tool. This feature is said to offer support for various controllers, including Sony Playstation Move, and allow the user to control the results and record them with the LightWave Channel. LightWave now also supports ZBrush with GoZ technology, making it possible to import and export texture data to ZBrush.
The price of LightWave 11 is 1,495 dollars, while the upgrade price for earlier versions is 695 dollars.
