Compared with the first quarter of 2011, this is an increase of 145% for Android, while iOS is far behind at 88.7%. Bringing up the rear were Blackberry(6.4%) and Symbian(6.8%). Symbian in particular lost 60.6% of its market share compared with the first quarter of the previous year. For Blackberry, the loss was somewhat smaller at 29.7%. However, the two providers not only suffered losses in market share; fewer devices were also shipped. The shares of Linux and Windows are rather modest, as Linux reached around 2.3% and Windows 2.2%.

Not only have the market shares changed, but the total number of devices shipped also increased substantially. In this first quarter, the number of devices sold rose by 49.9% compared with the previous year.
