As the LA Times reports, George Lucas will spend the coming year as CEO and then hand over the keys to the "Death Star," meaning Lucasfilm Ltd., to his successor, Kathleen Kennedy.
Kennedy, the producer of Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and the Jason Bourne films, owns her own production company (The Kennedy/Marshall Company) and has already collected seven Oscar nominations there. Furthermore, she has worked with Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, Barry Levinson, Clint Eastwood, David Fincher, and Gary Ross, and is on the board of the "Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences" (AMPAS).
What George Lucas will do now is not yet known – the production company founded in 1971 (at the time for THX 1138) has been in his possession ever since. Officially, he is being discussed as a writer for Indiana Jones 5, as well as for further spin-offs of the Star Wars universe.
