FaceShift Open Beta: Low-Budget Face Capture for Everyone

The FaceShift team around Dr. Thibaut Weise and Dr. Brian Amberg promises that its latest development is a two-stage system for recording facial animations without markers and expensive mocap cameras. Anyone interested can still register through the official website for the FaceShift open beta, which runs until July.

According to FaceShift AG, the program of the same name is intended to support real-time tracking and recording. If you want to process the recorded data directly, you are supposed to be able to export markers for programs such as MotionBuilder as C3D. Maya users have every reason to be pleased, since the tracks created in FaceShift can be transferred to characters in Maya. But the team is already announcing extensions. According to the official news, the young company also intends to provide support for additional 3D packages in the future.

In principle, the export data sets are structured so that they use an open format and contain information such as poses, markers, and tracking parameters.

A registration form for the open beta is available here.
