Now users can themselves steer the red-haired main character Sintel through the city of Garway. Thematically, the game follows on from the plot of the animated film "Sintel." The protagonist Sintel was attacked by bandits outside Garway and comes under the care of a friendly stranger. During the course of the game, it emerges that the guards of Garway are corrupt criminals, and Sintel’s task is now to free the city and its inhabitants from the clutches of this corrupt rule. The story and its dialogue were conceived and written by American Malcolm Corliss.

Game Engine

The seven-member development team used the Blender Engine as the game engine; most parts of the game were created with Python 2.3.6. To play the game, according to the developers, the graphics card and its drivers must be compatible with the OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL); so far, however, binary files are available only for Windows. Binary Linux or Mac OS X versions could be created from the source code, and the game developers call for this on the Blender page.

Download

Alpha version 1.1 contains three mini-levels, in which, among other things, red beetles have to be beaten with a stick and Sintel walks around in a desert landscape. The source code with the binary files for Windows is included directly under a CCBY license. As another source of information for those who do not yet know the film of the same name, the package also contains the open-source film on which the game is based.

Anyone who does not want to wait for that, however, can watch the film directly here once again. The film "Sintel" celebrated its premiere at the Nederlands Film Festival in Utrecht in October 2010.
