The best works of art in app format, distinguished as advanced artistic applications, entered the competition for the award endowed with 10,000 euros. In addition to these aesthetic aspects, the creative integration and use of technological possibilities was also in focus.
The winning app, which emerged from the diploma film "Globosome," was developed under the primary responsibility of five students from the Institute of Animation at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Anna Katharina Brinkschulte and Franziska Remmele, who are responsible for producing the game and are currently studying in the Interactive Media specialization, on the success: "When we heard about the win, we were completely surprised and were insanely happy. The award is not only a confirmation of our great teamwork, but also a motivation to continue working on the game and let ‘Globosome’ grow together."
The "Globosome" app, which has been available free of charge for iPhone and iPad in the AppStore since April, emerged from Sascha Geddert’s graduation film of the same name, which was used last May as the trailer for FMX 2012. Geddert, who successfully completed his studies at the institute this spring, also served as game director for the adaptation of his film. Students Fabian Schaub and Thomas Krüger handled the game design and programming. The music was composed by film-music student Maryna Aksenov, and the sound design was created by Namralata Strack, who also studies at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. In the skill game, small spheres must be steered and replicated through an unfamiliar world. The challenge and difficulty for the player lies in maintaining balance and enlarging the dynamic swarm of spheres through skillful control, thereby working through tricky levels.
