No, they are not album titles; the three camera models in the Hero3 series are actually called the White, Black and Silver Editions. The most expensive model is the Black Edition at 399.99 dollars, followed by the Silver camera at 299.99 dollars, while the least expensive variant is the White Edition at 199.99 dollars. The difference between the three camera versions lies mainly in the frame rate when filming.
The Black camera is said to be able to record at 4K resolution, although at a frame rate of 12 fps this seems to make little sense in this mode because smooth movement is not possible in the video recording. In 2.7K recording mode, however, it is said to reach 30 fps, and at 1080p already 60 fps. If the resolution quality is reduced to a minimum, for example 720p, the camera even reaches 120 fps, which can be used for slow-motion recordings. The Black Edition is also said to deliver good performance in poor lighting conditions.
The maximum resolution of the White and Silver Editions is 1080p at 30 fps. At a resolution quality of 720p, however, both models also achieve 60 fps. For photographs, the Black Edition is the highest-quality choice because it has 12 megapixels, while the Silver model takes 11-megapixel photos and the White camera only 5-megapixel works.
All three camera models have built-in Wi-Fi functionality. Another improvement over the predecessor models is the Hero3 models’ volume, reduced by 30 percent, and the lower weight of 75 grams. With an included protective housing, the cameras are said to be able to film at water depths of 60 metres. The memory cards used are no longer SD cards but smaller MicroSD cards.
