The green screen is located in a hangar on the former Berlin airport site, where the film’s elaborate scenes set in front of the historic Reichstag are to be shot. Rebuilding the Reichstag’s historic façade would have been too costly and elaborate.
With the Virtual Backlot process, the backgrounds can be added live during filming, because the Reichstag model is a virtual 180-degree set. The camera operator is supposed to be able to see the final image through the viewfinder while filming, and the director can also view on a tablet PC how the virtual backgrounds will appear in the respective scene.
UFA film production has been shooting the TV film "Nacht über Berlin—Der Reichtagsbrand" since August 5. The married acting couple Anna Loos and Jan Josef Liefers will be seen in the leading roles.
