The Teradek Bolt is connected to the camera via HD-SDI (which is a standard connection and therefore available on almost every system). It transmits uncompressed 1080p60 in 4:2:2. This transmission runs on the WSDI Pro wireless standard and is said to allow a range of up to 100 metres to the receiver—with several receivers also possible, for example for a monitor, recorder and more. To prevent an unintended cinema screening in the surrounding area, it is encrypted with AES128. The transmission is of course also suitable for remote-controlled cameras.
The Bolt has a 3G-SDI input on the transmitter and two 3G-SDI outputs on the receiver, several of which can also be connected. According to the manufacturer, the transmitter is housed in a sturdy aluminium casing and has several drill holes for mounting directly on the camera. The casing is just under 6 cm by 1.1 cm and weighs just under 250 grams. Power is supplied either by a battery charged via Micro USB or by an external power supply. The battery is said to provide approximately 100 minutes of shooting time.
The price is said to be around 2,000 dollars—so far, the manufacturer has merely announced its availability, but the first units should still be delivered this year.
The limitations of the video: Bolt lab testing with a signal generator has shown delay of < 1ms. Any minor delay you seen in this video was due to the camera and monitor (e.g built in scalers) and it’s also compounded by the video being recursive.
The receiver in video is a prototype. Dual SDI receiver will be what ships with the Bolt system.
