Many would surely have expected Google in first place, but the best employer is said to be SAS Institute in Cary, North Carolina. Google in Mountain View, California follows directly behind in second place. Other familiar names from the industry are Microsoft in Redmond, Washington in fifth place and Autodesk in San Rafael, California in tenth place. Astonishing but true, PepsiCo and McDonald’s can also be found among the remaining 15 places. Perhaps these two companies make their employees even happier with an extra helping of sugar.

The institute also presented an award for "Europe’s Best Employers 2012" this year. 100 companies from 18 European countries were honoured for their particularly high workplace quality; Germany has 18 award winners this year, with only Denmark providing slightly more winning companies, at 19.
Thus, NetApp in Kirchheim and Autodesk in Munich are said to be good employers in Germany, while Microsoft offers the best workplace comfort in the European comparison.
