The player and viewer for the 3D, CG and VFX industry is intended to support most industry-standard formats such as EXR, HDR, DPX, CIN, R3D, TGA, SGI, IFF, PIC and VRIMG. It is also supposed to be possible to colour-correct different layers and composite them in real time.

The new update is now also intended to support QuickTime in the 64-bit version of PdPlayer. In addition, the current RED SDK is said to have been implemented in the new version, so that different R3D tracks are now supported and the current R3D look can be saved as RMD metadata.

In addition, Nuke integration is said to have been improved through new script commands, so that saturation, hue and contrast can be perfectly adjusted and AVI and MOV files can also be exported. The range of supported file types is also said to have been expanded; PdPlayer is now intended to be able to play DNG, 16-bit DPX and RGBA DPX files. According to Chaosgroup, stability on the Lion operating system has been improved for Mac users.
