Artixels, a company founded in Hong Kong in 2011, has released the Nuke plug-in Escher 1.0. According to Artixels, this is a suite with various image generators as well as 2.5D creative tools intended to offer compositing artists new possibilities between 2D and 3D.

The aim of Escher 1.0 is said to be to enable artists to create 3D images in a new way while at the same time offering the complete possibilities of the natural approach to 2D image manipulation.

Features of the plug-in include Fake Caustics or Fake Lightprobes, special Lambert and Glossy shaders, as well as an Ambient Occlusion Shader that uses a Depth Map for the AO effects. Escher 1.0 is available for Nuke 6.3 and higher and is compatible with Windows 7, CentOS 5.X, as well as Mac OSX 10.5 and 10.6 on all 64-bit systems. The Nuke plug-in can be purchased in various licence forms; a fixed single licence costs 399 dollars, and a floating licence 499 dollars.
